As winter begins to show signs of letting up in our hometown of Winnipeg, R31 is busy as usual preparing for 2023 production.
Currently we’re finishing up the post-production of 26 episodes of Almost Unsolved, a true crime series for Super Channel in Canada. The best way to describe the show is: Less gory and more story – compared to other true crime shows. Focusing on the people, detectives, genealogists and amateur sleuths who have put so much into bringing some form of closure and justice to terrible tragedies. The series begins airing this spring.
It’s been three years since our film Volendam: A Refugee Story screened at Real to Reel Film Festival in Winnipeg. It was extremely well received, winning the Best Feature Documentary award and was an amazing night of both tears and many cheers. Finally, R31 was back on the screen at Real to Reel, post COVID and in person this past weekend with Conform: The Mennonite Migration to Mexico. The film was an official selection this year and had three wonderful nights of screenings followed by Q&A with director Andrew Wall and the audience. In the end, the film that examines a hundred-year-old story of the clash between faith and government in Manitoba took home Best Documentary Feature. Thank you to the festival for another great year!
The rest of 2023 will be a mix of documentary production (a few projects still under wraps) as well as more true crime series production.
Stay tuned for more announcements as we go into 2023!
