It’s been a busy year for R31 so far, and it looks to stay that way for the rest of the year!

Almost Unsolved, a 26-episode series that examines cold case homicides, spent nearly a full year in production and we are now proud to have delivered the final episode for Season 1. It is currently airing in Canada on Super Channel and is also available on Amazon Prime. Thank you to everyone involved in it’s making, from researchers, writers, crew and actors to investigators, forensics experts and victim’s families – we appreciate you helping us tell these important stories. The response so far from the families and law enforcement officials has been amazing – the whole show has been an incredible experience.

Now, in the wake of Almost Unsolved Season 1, we are delighted to announce the start of Almost Unsolved Heists. A true “soft” crime spinoff that examines the world of heists from around the world. The show will follow a similar story pattern to Almost Unsolved and will be taking R31 from England to New Zealand and everywhere in between, telling some of the most fascinating and bizarre heists pulled off by people who thought they could get away with it. This includes the Great Canadian Gold Heist of 66′ that was pulled off by the legendary Ken Leishman- a story from our own backyard here in Winnipeg.

The other project we are starting at R31 is our passion project that has been waiting to be made since Andrew Wall and Kyle Bornais produced The Paper Nazis in 2011. That film, made prior to R31’s inception, examined extremist ideologies in Winnipeg during the 1930’s. The TV hour left so much research unable to pack into an hour as well as more questions to answer. Now, that all can finally be tackled as The Devil’s Handshake is enters production. The film is a POV feature documentary that explores the Mennonite connection to Nazism. Essentially, it asks how otherwise good people can be participants in extremist ideology through a 21st century lens as Andrew Wall explores his own family connection. It should be a fascinating journey.

FinallyThe Satanic Panic and the Religious Battle for the Imagination recently won a Silver award at Worldfest 2023, one of the longest running festivals out there. We’re delighted to see it getting so much attention and recognition.

That’s it for now at R31. There’s a lot going on so stay tuned!
