Refuge 31 Films has completed its long awaited feature documentary film Volendam: A Refugee Story. Production began well over a year ago which included travel to the Volendam and Neuland Colonies in Paraguay. The documentary examines the group of Russian Mennonite refugees who escaped Stalin’s Soviet Union during the Second World War.

R31 is also delighted to announce that Volendam will be premiering at The Real to Reel Film Festival on February 20th. This is not the first time that R31 has screened at the festival as its two feature documentaries Burning Ember and Suspended have both taken the Best Feature Documentary film award in previous years as well as a Best Short Documentary Award for Otto’s Obsession.

As the feature documentary begins its festival run, we hope that you can join us in sharing this important story. More information on screenings and awards to come…
